Tips for Your LinkedIn Profile

Career Development

Couple of weeks ago, we published an article “How to Write a Strong LinkedIn Profile“. Today, we want to zoom in and share tips on what kind of photos to use for your profile picture and cover photo.

As we have mentioned in the said earlier article, your profile photo is your identity card on LinkedIn. Make sure that your photo is always recent. Wear at least smart casual and smile with your eyes. In terms of your cover photo, make sure that it will grab people’s attention. It should set the context and show a little more about what you do. In short, if done correctly, your profile and cover photos serve as effective marketing tools.

Spotlight on LinkedIn cover or banner photo, you may get inspiration from Pinterest.

Now, you might be asking already - what’s the perfect size for a LinkedIn profile picture as well as for a cover photo. Here it is:

Profile picture: 400 x 400
LinkedIn banner or cover photo: 792 x 191

The good news is - there are available tools where you can create your LinkedIn images. There is Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, and Canva to mention a few. For ease and a personal preference though, I recommend using Canva. Create your cover or banner photo today to try! Just follow these eight steps:

  1. Go to Canva: click on “Create a design”.
  2. Then on “LinkedIn banner” in the overview tab.
  3. Drag and drop the selected images and visuals.
  4. Add text (adapted to your graphic charter).
  5. Then manage the layout and colors and save.
  6. Go to your LinkedIn profile.
  7. Click on the background-image, then on the pencil icon to “Edit”.
  8. Then simply upload the image that you have just created.

Hope this article helps as you prepare to up your efforts for personal branding and marketing for 2023!
